The Kings Arms was situated at 22 South Street.
This pub was established by 1853. It was rebuilt in its current form in
1898 and closed in around 2005. It is currently being converted to a
Sainsbury's store. |
|
I believe it has been converted into a Co-op
store with a custom-built annexe as an adjacent entrance. The pub still
shows elements of it's original use, light fittings, paintwork although the
sign appears to have been painted over.
This pub appeared on ITV television in the 1970s in the prank show "Candid
Camera". The installed a fake phone box fitted to a forklift and invited
innocent members of the public to answer fake phone calls as the forklift
elevated the box. One such person may have been the publican as he is asked
about ordering some beer. |
