used to work for Bass Charringtons own gaming
machine business, Paymaster, later Leisure link then Inspired Gaming. The
Essex Arms Halstead was one of the pubs we had equipment in, I last visited
the premises around 2008. The pub itself was a little run down and not
particularly well laid out, being rather small inside. At the time, the
police station was open next door and was frequented by station staff at
lunchtimes. The manager at the time, unfortunately for him, looked like Fred
West; the infamous mass murderer. Noting this was after Fred West's death,
some of the police staff would joke that Fred wasn't dead but he was in
witness protection. Slightly bad taste of the police but probably
unsurprising considering his doppelganger and being right next door to the
police station. |
